Full DNS onboarding involves several checks
The guide addresses existing domains purchased elsewhere: add the domain, review DNS records, update nameservers and review SSL/TLS. It distinguishes Proxied records, whose web traffic passes through Cloudflare, from DNS only records, which return a DNS value without proxying traffic.

Save the current DNS inventory and a recovery method, and confirm your authority to manage the domain. Read Onboard a domain under Domains; inspect apex, subdomain and email records and decide proxy status. Include nameservers, DNSSEC and certificate review in a change plan rather than switching a production domain casually.

Treat onboarding as a network change
Web traffic, email and third-party verification can depend on different records. Learning the distinction between proxying and DNS-only resolution in a controlled small setup can make later troubleshooting easier than enabling many features at once.
A scan is not a complete inventory
