KiCad | From circuit schematics to PCB layout
Official name:KiCad
KiCad brings together schematic editing, PCB layout and 3D inspection, with rules checking and SPICE simulation. Use it to build a board-design workflow while independently checking footprints, dimensions and manufacturing requirements.

Connect schematics, board layout and spatial inspection
KiCad is an electronic design suite whose official site provides downloads, documentation and feature introductions. Schematic editing, printed-circuit-board layout and 3D viewing support different stages of a board-design workflow.

Separate tools for circuit connections and board layout
The schematic editor supports hierarchical designs, symbol libraries, custom symbols, electrical rules checking and integrated SPICE simulation. The PCB editor includes interactive routing. The 3D viewer supports inspection of board geometry and mechanical fit, as well as rendered presentation images.

Start with a small design and check each handoff
Use the documentation and download links on the official site, then try a simple circuit to learn symbols, connections and board layout before inspecting its 3D view. Before ordering a board, separately check footprints, dimensions and the manufacturer’s requirements; a convincing render is not manufacturing validation.

Useful when you are prepared to inspect the details
Electrical connections and physical placement need different kinds of attention. A small, reviewable first project makes unfamiliar steps easier to identify. Treat tool checks as inputs to design review, not as a promise of real-world reliability.
Program, documentation and libraries have distinct terms
The official licensing page separates the program, documentation, libraries and website. Most program code is under GPL version 3 or later; the libraries are listed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Check the actual component before copying or redistributing it rather than applying the website licence to every download.
