Joplin supports notes containing images, videos, PDFs and audio, with Markdown and rich-text editors. The official site provides application downloads, help and links to its web-clipper extension.

The app, sync provider and Cloud features are separate

Applications are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, alongside a terminal app. Sync options include Joplin Cloud, Dropbox and OneDrive. The homepage presents sharing, collaboration and public note links in its Joplin Cloud section; do not assume every sync option provides the same features.

Try a small note collection before adding devices

As a practical starting point, try representative notes and attachments, choose an editor and then select a sync target. For end-to-end encryption, follow the official E2EE guide: enable it on one device, complete synchronisation and bring other devices in sequentially rather than independently enabling it everywhere at once.

Set a manageable organisation scheme first

Start with a few practical uses such as meeting notes, project references and longer-term material, then decide whether plugins or sharing are useful. Multi-device access is convenient but does not replace clear organisation, periodic review or an independent backup.

Open source does not mean no connections or automatic encryption

The privacy policy describes external connections used for features including sync, updates and plugins; the E2EE guide requires manual activation. Review your settings and chosen provider terms, and protect the encryption password: the official guide says it cannot be recovered.
